Description: For the watercolor lesson, we practiced several new techniques that can be used when painting with watercolors. Some of these methods include:
- flat wash
- crayon resist
- blotting
- sqraffito
- wet on wet
After we were able to practice each method, we were give another piece of paper that was sectioned into four different boxes. The teacher would play a song and we were asked to paint whatever the music made us feel using at least one of the watercolor techniques in each box. I have included my results from this activity below. You can tell the differences in genre and music styles of each of the four quadrants.
Extension: Another activity where you could do a very similar concept with would be while reading a book. While you are reading aloud to the class, have your students pause at different spots to paint their feelings about what is happening in the story. To verify their connections, call on several students to share with the class about their painting and why they chose to paint what they did or use the colors that they did.
